Yash's Toxic Vulgar & Obscene: Don't Judge by Teaser?

With back to back blockbusters KGF Chapter 1 and KGF Chapter 2, Yash created a solid action image on a pan India level. Since then, anything connected to a Yash film naturally grabs attention.

After a gap of nearly four years, Yash is now returning with Toxic, directed by Geethu Mohandas. The film has a big ensemble cast that includes Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth, and Huma Qureshi. Tovino Thomas and Akshay Oberoi also play key roles.

Toxic is set as a period gangster action drama spanning from the 1940s to the 1970s. However, the teaser stirred controversy soon after its release. A cremation ground sequence, which carried heavy erotic undertones and led into a blast, drew strong backlash online. Many questioned the need for such visuals and openly slammed the makers.

The issue escalated when the National Christian Federation filed a formal complaint stating that certain visuals disrespected Saint Michael and hurt Christian religious sentiments. Earlier, a few activist groups had also objected to the teaser, calling some scenes obscene and unsuitable for women and children. These concerns reportedly reached the Karnataka State Women's Commission and the Central Board of Film Certification.

Amid all this, the President of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Jayamala, stepped in and asked people not to judge the film based only on a teaser. She pointed out that Toxic has not yet gone through the censor process and said it is unfair to jump to conclusions before that.

She compared it to judging a book by its cover and reminded audiences that filmmakers spend years and huge amounts of money on such projects. She also mentioned that the producers have clarified there are no obscene scenes and that the censor board will take care of any genuine issues.
