FAINA PUITU app launched in Mizoram for digital waste management services

North East News 2 weeks ago

Mizoram's Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Minister Prof. Lalnilawma on Monday launched the FAINA PUITU mobile application at the Engineer-in-Chief's Office Meeting Hall, marking a new step towards digitalisation of waste management services in the state.

The FAINA PUITU application is designed to provide users a wide range of sanitation-related services, including tracking sanitation trucks, checking waste collection schedules, offering door-to-door pickup, and selling recyclable garbage such as cardboard, metal, plastic and e-waste.

It also allows users to access waste management rules and file complaints through the platform.

According to officials, the application will be available for free download on both IOS and Android platforms during the period of 2026, after which a monthly subscription fee of Rs 10 per month will be applicable from 2027.

The application has been utilised in the Aibawk RD Block effectively while it has not been used in the Aizawl Municipality area yet.

Speaking at the launch, Prof. Lalnilawma expressed satisfaction over the initiatives, stating that Mizoram is keeping pace with global developments through such innovations.

He described the app as an efficient tool to save both time and energy, while also promoting better utilisation of waste under the concept of "Waste to Wealth".

He further highlighted that steps are being taken to ensure proper implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, in line with Supreme Court directives, including collaboration with Village Councils for waste processing outside Aizawl.

He expressed confidence that the app would play a key role in strengthening these efforts.

Referring to broader educational values, Lalnilawma also pointed out that under the New Education Policy (NEP), a key "graduate attribute" is a concern for sanitation and cleanliness.

He urged people to reflect on cleanliness practices, especially in less visible areas, and described the application as a "win-win solution" for both governance and public awareness.

The programme was chaired by PHED Engineer-in-Chief Er. Zodinthari. During the event, Pu Laldinthara, CEO of Waste Technology and Bio Energy and operator of the Aibawk Plastic Waste Management Centre, demonstrated the features and usage uses of the application.
