Security forces demolish six bunkers in Manipur's Kangpokpi, recover arms near India-Myanmar border

Imphal: Six illegal bunkers were dismantled by security forces in Kangpokpi district of Manipur, police said on Thursday.

According to officials, two of the bunkers were destroyed in Tingpibung village, while three others were demolished at Lungter Hill.

Another bunker was taken down in Leplen village as part of the security operation.

During the operation, security personnel also recovered 12 empty cases of 7.62 mm ammunition from the bunker sites, police added.

On 22.04.2026, security forces destroyed 06 (six) illegal bunkers (Tingpibung Village-02 bunkers, Lungter Hill-03 bunkers and Leplen Village-01 bunker) under Saikul-PS, Kangpokpi district.

In a separate intelligence-led operation conducted on April 21, security forces recovered a cache of weapons and explosives from an area located between Indo-Myanmar Border Pillars 72 and 73 under Moreh police station in Tengnoupal district.

The recovered items included an AK-47 rifle with a magazine, a carbine along with its magazine, four improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and two Motorola radio sets. The IEDs were later neutralised at the site in line with standard operating procedures.

The operation was conducted by central security forces in coordination with Manipur police. A metal-detecting sniffer dog was also deployed following specific intelligence inputs about insurgent movement near the border region.

Meanwhile, security has been intensified across the state with 112 nakas and checkpoints established in both hill and valley districts.

These measures led to the detention of nine individuals. Officials said search operations and area domination patrols are continuing in sensitive locations, particularly along the India-Myanmar border.
