In a first-of-its-kind move for the Assam Assembly Election 2026, voters in Assam will be provided with a mobile phone deposit facility outside polling stations on April 9. The initiative, introduced by the Election Commission of India, aims to ensure smooth, secure, and disruption-free voting.
New Mobile Phone Rules for Assam Assembly Election 2026
As part of the updated polling guidelines:
Mobile phones are allowed only within a 100-metre radius of polling stations
Devices must remain switched off within this zone
Voters must deposit phones at designated counters before entering
A token system will be used for collection after voting
Voters can retrieve their devices after casting their vote, but must ensure phones remain switched off until they exit the restricted area.
