Ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, the district administration has declared dry days across the Kamrup Metropolitan district to ensure smooth and peaceful polling.
As per an order issued by the District Commissioner, the dry period will be enforced from 5 PM on April 7 until 5 PM on April 9, covering the polling day. Additionally, a dry day will also be observed on May 4, the day of vote counting, until the entire counting process is completed.
During this period, all liquor-related activities will remain completely shut. This includes wholesale and retail liquor shops, bonded warehouses, and outlets selling Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) as well as country liquor.
The order also applies to bars, clubs, hotels, and other establishments serving alcohol. Small-scale liquor manufacturing units and local brewing centres will also have to remain closed during the notified period.
The district administration has urged all licensed traders and the general public to strictly follow the order. It warned that any violation will invite strict legal action as per the law.
