A rare and striking sight from Assam's wilderness has caught widespread attention after the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) shared visuals of a melanistic black panther from Manas National Park.
The images, posted on X on July 4, show the elusive big cat moving silently through the forest, offering a glimpse that few ever get to witness. Known for its dark coat and secretive behaviour, the melanistic leopard, often called a black panther, is rarely seen in the wild.
“The Ghost Rider at Manas!... where the elusive melanistic black panther quietly steals the show. A rare glimpse into the wild that reminds us why Manas remains one of India's most extraordinary forests,” the CMO wrote in its post.
