GMCH Patient Administered Three Wrong Injections, Health Deteriorates

GMCH Patient Administered Three Wrong Injections, Health Deteriorates

PratidinTime 2 weeks ago

A case of alleged medical negligence has surfaced at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati after a patient suffering from fever was reportedly administered injections meant for a kidney patient, following which her health condition deteriorated.

According to the patient's family, Kavita Deka, who had been admitted with fever, was allegedly given three injections prescribed for a kidney patient by a junior nurse during the night shift.

The family alleged that the junior nurse was on duty under the supervision of Head Nurse Minakshi Duwara when the incident occurred.

Soon after the injections were administered, Kavita's health reportedly worsened and she began experiencing several complications and unusual symptoms.

The family further alleged that when they questioned the head nurse about the incident, she initially dismissed their concerns and allegedly sent the junior nurse away instead of addressing the issue.

However, after the patient's relatives sought an explanation, the junior nurse reportedly admitted that she had mistakenly administered the three injections.

The allegations have triggered serious concerns over patient safety and medical protocols at the state's premier government hospital. At the time of filing this report, GMCH authorities had not issued an official statement on the matter. Further details are awaited.
