Pune Woman Alleges Restaurant Staff Misused Her Number Accessed Through QR Menu System

A social media post by a Girl who is Pune resident has sparked debate around digital privacy and the handling of customer data by restaurants using QR-code menu systems.

The woman is identified as Rishika Dutta, has alleged that an employee of a well-known restaurant on Fergusson College Road misused her personal information after she visited the outlet recently.

According to Dutta's social media post, she had visited the restaurant on April 28 and used a QR code provided at the table to access the digital menu.

Later the same night, she began receiving personal text messages from an unknown number.

After checking the sender's profile and details, she claimed and discovered that the individual was an employed at the same restaurant she had visited few days ago.

Dutta alleged that her phone number may have been accessed through the restaurant's QR-based ordering system or menu system.

Screenshots shared online appeared to show the sender attempting to initiate personal conversation and trying to ask inappropriate questions.

The incident has reignited concerns over how customer contact details collected through digital systems are stored, accessed and protected by businesses.

Following the incident, Dutta reportedly approached the restaurant management and demanded action.

According to her, the restaurant have informed her that the employee concerned had been removed from service across all branches shortly after the complaint was made.

However, she also alleged that the management did not provide written confirmation regarding the action taken and also failed to issue a formal apology.

In response to the allegations, the restaurant later posted a statement on social media apologising for the incident.

The management stated that immediate action had been taken and assured customers that privacy and safety remain top priorities.

The restaurant also said it would strengthen internal systems and monitoring processes to prevent similar incidents in the future.
