February Air Passenger Demand Shows Steady Growth Across Markets
The International Air Transport Association reported that global air passenger demand increased in February 2026, reflecting continued recovery in travel activity across both domestic and international markets.
Total demand, measured in revenue passenger kilometres (RPK), rose by 6.1% year over year in February 2025. Capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASK), increased by 5.6% year-on-year. The overall load factor reached 81.4%, up 0.3 percentage points from the previous year.
International passenger demand grew by 5.9%, with capacity rising by 5.3%. The load factor for international travel stood at 80.5%, up slightly from February 2025.
Domestic travel demand increased by 6.3%, while capacity grew by 6.2%. The domestic load factor remained stable at 82.8%.
William M. WalshWillie Walsh, IATA's Director General, noted that demand growth remained steady during the month. However, he highlighted that rising fuel costs and ongoing geopolitical developments, particularly in the Middle East, are influencing airline operations, fares and capacity planning.
