The partnership comes as Malta prepares to host the WTTC Global Summit 2026 in Valletta from 7 to 9 October 2026. The event will bring together tourism leaders, government representatives, investors and industry executives to discuss the future of travel and tourism.

The Malta Tourism Authority works with the government, tourism businesses, local communities and international partners to support the development of Malta's tourism industry. Its work includes destination promotion, industry cooperation, workforce development and maintaining standards across the tourism sector.

Malta's tourism offering is closely linked to its history, culture, coastline and local communities. The MTA also places focus on sustainability and maintaining the character of the Maltese Islands as visitor numbers and tourism activity continue to develop.

WTTC Partnership Supports Malta Tourism

Tourism Minister Jo Etienne Abela said the partnership gives Malta an opportunity to engage with international tourism leaders, share its experience, and identify opportunities for sustainable growth. He also noted that hosting the 2026 WTTC Global Summit will give Malta a platform to present its tourism plans and destination offering.

Gloria Guevara, WTTC President & CEO, said the council looks forward to working with the Malta Tourism Authority as the country prepares to host the Global Summit in Valletta. She added that the event will provide an opportunity to highlight Malta's heritage, hospitality and approach to sustainable tourism.

Carlo Micallef, CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority, said becoming a WTTC Destination Partner will allow Malta to engage with decision-makers across the international travel industry. He added that the partnership supports the country's focus on developing a sustainable and resilient tourism sector while building on Malta's heritage and visitor experiences.

The partnership also sets the stage for further cooperation ahead of the WTTC Global Summit 2026, where Malta will host representatives from across the international Travel & Tourism sector.
