Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a strong appeal to citizens during his speech in Hyderabad on May 10, 2026, urging people to adopt more economically responsible habits in the interest of the nation.

Stressing the importance of financial discipline during uncertain global conditions, Modi said every Indian has a role to play in protecting the country's economic stability.

One of the biggest suggestions made by the Prime Minister was to reduce gold purchases for at least one year. He explained that large-scale gold imports put pressure on India's foreign exchange reserves and increase the outflow of money to other countries. Modi said cutting down unnecessary imports would help strengthen the Indian economy during challenging global situations.

The Prime Minister also advised people to postpone avoidable foreign trips for some time. According to him, reducing overseas spending can help India save valuable foreign currency reserves. He highlighted that global tensions, fuel crises, and economic uncertainties are affecting many countries, making it important for Indians to act responsibly.

Modi further appealed to citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption by using public transport systems like metros and buses whenever possible. He also encouraged people to shift towards electric vehicles, saying EV adoption would help India reduce fuel dependency and improve long-term energy security.

Another key point in his speech was related to cooking oil consumption. The Prime Minister suggested that people should reduce excessive use of edible oils, linking it not only to health benefits but also to lowering import dependency. He said India spends a huge amount on importing edible oils every year.

Emphasizing the idea of self-reliance, Modi said, "Only when we use Swadeshi products can we truly build an Atmanirbhar Bharat." He urged people to support Indian-made products and industries to strengthen domestic manufacturing and generate employment opportunities within the country.
