Udaipur, March 9, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran): On the occasion of International Women's Day, an inspiring programme was organised in the Udaipur division where Divisional Commissioner Pragya Kevalramani was felicitated for her contribution towards the development of tribal regions and promotion of sports.
The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of several talented women athletes, their parents and sports enthusiasts. The atmosphere reflected the spirit of women empowerment and sportsmanship.
International-level lacrosse players who have represented the country also participated in the programme. Among those present were Sunita Meena, Jula Kumari Gurjar, Dali Gameti, Meera Douja, Yashistha Batra, Yashoda Gameti, Vishakha Meghwal, Roshni Bose, Jhanvi Rathore, Mukan Kumari Gurjar and Hemlata Dangi, along with several national and international level women players.
Players and sports lovers appreciated the efforts of the Divisional Commissioner in identifying and encouraging hidden sporting talent in tribal areas. They said there is no shortage of talent in tribal regions, but due to lack of resources many players are unable to progress. In such a situation, the initiatives taken to improve sports facilities, provide training opportunities and encourage athletes are highly commendable.
In her address, Pragya Kevalramani encouraged women athletes not to consider themselves inferior to anyone. She said self-confidence, discipline and consistent practice are the key factors behind the success of any sportsperson.
She added that if athletes move towards their goals with dedication and hard work, they can bring pride not only to their region but also to the country at national and international levels.
The Divisional Commissioner also said that sports are not limited to victory or defeat but are an important medium for personality development, confidence building and leadership skills. Through sports, young people develop discipline, teamwork and a sense of responsibility.
She especially called upon girls and young women from tribal areas to come forward and participate in sports. She said the government and administration are working to provide better training, facilities and opportunities to talented athletes so that they can realise their full potential and set positive examples in society.
The players and sports enthusiasts present at the event also shared their experiences and highlighted that sports provide women with opportunities to become self-reliant and gain respect in society. They noted that sports strengthen confidence and help women face challenges with determination.
