Yamaha finally super-close to entering the electric scooter space in India
Quick News Highlights:
The Aerox is the sportier of the two
The EC-06 is the practical, family oriented commuter
The EC-06 is based on the same platform as the River Indie
Yamaha unveiled its first electric scooters in India today: the Aerox Electric and EC-06. The former is a sporty electric scooter, while the latter is based on the River Indie, although has some key differences, and is a family oriented scooter. Expect them to be launched in early 2026, perhaps in January. Apart from these, Yamaha also launched the much-awaited XSR155. It even brought in the new Yamaha FZ-Rave.
Yamaha Aerox-E

The Yamaha Aerox-E carries the sporty styling of the Yamaha Aerox 155, and is aimed at riders wanting a fun and exciting electric scooter. It has a 6kWh battery pack (split across dual removable 3kWh packs), with a claimed range of 106km. It gets a mid-mounted motor making an impressive 9.4kW and 48Nm.
It comes equipped with 3 ride modes: Eco, Standard, Power; and an additional 'Boost' function that provides additional power in short bursts for overtakes. The lighting is all-LED, while the TFT console comes with Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, maintenance reminders, and last parked location via the Y-connect app. It rivals other sporty electric scooters like the Ather 450 Apex, TVS X Electric, and the upcoming Ultraviolette Tesseract (top-end variant).
Yamaha EC-06

The Yamaha EC-06 is the practical commuter scooter for daily use. It is based on the River Indie electric scooter, and is meant for comfort, efficiency, practicality. Yamaha has a partnership with Bengaluru-based startup River.
The EC-06 is powered by a 4kWh battery offering an IDC (Indian Driving Cycle) range of 160km, which takes 9 hours to charge via a standard home plug. The e-scooter is powered by a 4.5kW mid-mounted motor making 6.7kW (peak).

It has a telescopic front fork, twin rear shocks, disc brakes and 14-inch wheels at both ends. features like USB charging, colour LCD display. While the River Indie has a massive 43-litre underseat storage, this one has a much smaller 24.5-litre storage space - likely due to the redesigned rear section. While it may not be as convenient as the Indie, it should still be decent enough for grocery runs and everyday commutes.
BikeDekho Says
The Yamaha Aerox-E could be priced just under Rs 3 lakh, whereas the EC-06 might cost around Rs 1.5-1.60 lakh (both ex-showroom). With two products: one sporty and another family-oriented, Yamaha wants to cover all bases in the electric scooter segment. Whether Yamaha's strategy is sound or not is something we'll have to wait and see until the price announcement.

As far as Japanese brands are concerned, Honda hasn't really set the sales chart on fire with the Activa e: and the QC1, while Suzuki is yet to launch the e-Access despite unveiling it a year ago. Yamaha might have taken its own sweet time, but the two scooters seem pretty promising, purely by the claimed figures and features. We'll reserve our final judgment once we get to ride both soon! Apart from the electric scooters, Yamaha hasannounced that it will launch 5 more two-wheelers in India.
