Chittoor district is the native district of Chandrababu Naidu.
Peddireddy Rama Chandra Reddy has been the thorn in the flesh of the TDP here for many elections.
Late YSR and Kiran Kumar Reddy supported him big time to decimate Naidu.
He also grew financially strong with their support for his businesses and illegal mining.
In 2019, YSR Congress won 13 out of 14 Assembly segments and both Tirupati and Chittoor Parliament constituencies. Chandrababu Naidu was the only TDP candidate to win in the district.
Even in the 2014 election, when TDP came to power, the party only won six seats in the district.
After winning in 2019, Peddireddy was unstoppable in the district.
Jagan gave him a free hand. He was the only minister to retain his Ministry throughout the five years.
Every now and then, he used to make big challenges to defeat Chandrababu Naidu in Kuppam. In fact, he wrested Kuppam Municipality using brute force and money power.
But TDP+ registered a stunning result by winning 13 out of the 14 segments in the district. Only Peddireddy scraped through a slender margin.
But the arrest of Midhun Reddy will muzzle Peddireddy and will free the district from his clutches.
It is now up to TDP to capitalize on this and get complete hold of the district by 2029.
