Just days after being arrested in the US, Anmol Bishnoi, Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's brother, has asked for political asylum, helping him escape extradition to India.
Anmol is wanted in India for links to the high-profile murders of Sidhu Moosewala and Baba Siddique. He fled the country using a fake passport after his brother's arrest in 2023.

Notably, Bishnoi's arrest in America is not on the charges of murder but due to entering the country illegally. This could also be a ploy from his side to turn himself in as a way to begin the asylum process, rather than risk being caught and deported immediately.
With this plea, Anmol has made it clear that he entered the US with the sole motive to seek protection from the Indian legal system. His case is now under review and will likely take a long time.

This came after the Mumbai Police started working to bring him back to India. Now that he has started the asylum process, it's unlikely he'll be sent back till his request for asylum is resolved.
The American legal system often lets people out on bail in such cases, Goldie Brar being the prime example of this. As a result, this could bring diplomatic tensions between India and the US.
