After the ruling Congress recorded a winning streak in recent panchayat elections, focus has shifted to the upcoming ZPTC polls. There is strong likelihood that the election notification will be issued on January 11 or January 20.
The Telangana government and the State Election Commission are actively preparing for the process. The government has already decided to conduct elections in 117 municipal corporations where the terms have ended.
The State Election Commission released a draft voters list on January 1. The final voters list is scheduled to be published on January 10, making January 11 a likely date for the notification. If delays occur due to Sankranti holidays, the notification may be issued on January 20.
The MAUD department is assisting with preparations for the polls. At the same time, the government is planning to divide GHMC into three municipal corporations with 100 wards. This proposal may be completed by the end of January, with elections expected in April or May.
For ZPTC and MPTC elections, a comprehensive voters list is essential. Details regarding ward division in municipalities have not yet reached the State Election Commission. Without this information, preparation of the voters list cannot be completed.
Officials said the voters list process is expected to be finalised in the third week of January. After that, arrangements for polling stations and other election procedures will begin in phases.
Authorities are keen to conduct the ZPTC elections without legal complications and in a transparent manner. Officials have clarified that polls will not be held without a final voters list, making February or March the likely window for elections.
