The police in Assam's Baksa district arrested two individuals from Maharashtra's Nashik on Tuesday on charges of human trafficking and rescued five young women from their clutches, officials said.
According to officials, the accused were part of a well-organised racket that targeted vulnerable teenage girls and young women from Assam, luring them with false promises before trafficking them to Maharashtra, where they were allegedly sold. The operation, carried out based on specific intelligence inputs, led to the successful rescue of the victims and the apprehension of the traffickers.
Police sources revealed that the network had been operating through deceptive tactics, exploiting socio-economic vulnerabilities to trap victims. The rescued women are currently under protection, and necessary legal and rehabilitation procedures are being initiated.

This crackdown comes barely a month after Baksa Police had dismantled another human trafficking module, indicating the persistence of such criminal networks in the region.
Authorities have intensified investigations to identify other members of the syndicate and trace the broader trafficking chain, while reaffirming their commitment to crack down on crimes targeting women and minors.
